Service members evaluating technology geared to help military and civilian first responders

FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (Oct. 11, 2019) – The Homeland Defense/Civil Support Office on Fort Leonard is conducting a Limited Objective Experiment at 9 a.m. Oct. 16. on the installation. Reporters are invited to attend and observe service members evaluating technology designed to lessen the hazards service members and first responders face when dealing with incidents such as natural disasters.

According to the Homeland Defense/Civil Support Office, the technologies will be evaluated during a scenario involving a mock 5.7 magnitude earthquake along the New Madrid Seismic Zone, an area that is of serious concern to the state of Missouri.

The evaluation will take place at the Urban Search and Rescue Range, one of Fort Leonard Wood’s latest and state-of-the-art training facilities that includes a rubble pile and collapsed buildings.
